Welcome to our Indie Comics Spotlight! Being an independent creator comes with its unique challenges, especially when it comes to promoting your work at Comic-cons. Many creators face the harsh reality of rising table prices, travel expenses, lodging, food, and the production costs of their comics, making it difficult to even break even. Despite these hurdles, attending conventions remains a vital step in building an audience, even as the landscape shifts towards a mix of pop culture events that often overshadow standalone comic conventions. At conventions, the vibrant mix of pop culture elements like anime, collectibles, and gaming creates an exciting atmosphere. At our most recent convention, I noticed the growth in 3D products and even a traveling petting zoo. This is great for consumers to have such a variety of stuff to do, however, it can lead to Independent comic creators finding themselves overshadowed. Having launched SleepRunners 16 years ago, I've seen firsthand how these creators used to receive more visibility at conventions. , Independants would regularly get promoted on the convention site and literature. That seems to be less common now, and it is tragic when the costs have gotten so high, As I attend upcoming events, I aim going to spotlight fellow independent artists and publishers, encouraging others to support their favorite creators through simple acts like sharing posts and offering words of encouragement. Personally, I have had many friends that have bought from me and I will never forget their support and the feeling it gives me. When a creator sacrifices so much in their lives to bring something they truly love to life, to me it is the true definition of Daring to Dream. Let's work together to ensure that independent voices are heard and celebrated!
For our first creator spotlight I would like to introduce my friend Jamie Mcaffee. I met Jamie at Ultracon in Palm Beach Florida during our last show. I was captivated by her personality and sales dedication and it drew me into purchasing her series Alexis Whyle. I spent some of my downtime at the convention reading the first issue in her series. The book is compelling and well written. The art by Marc Rene really complimented the storyline. The first issue left off with quite a cliffhanger and left me looking forward to the next issue. Be sure to check her out and support this newcomer to the scene.

Meet Poseidon, a talented newcomer I had the pleasure of connecting with at Ultracon in Palm Beach, Florida. From the moment we met, his friendly personality and passion for his craft shone through. We spent some quality time discussing his ambitious goals for his studio, which include not only creating comic books but also bringing them to life through video games and animation. His captivating looped video animation kept me engaged throughout the convention, and I encourage everyone to check him out and support his exciting journey!
